Lost or Stolen Passport or BRP

If you lose your passport and/or BRP card while you are travelling outside the UK or inside the UK the following information should help you identify the next steps you need to take.

Lost/Stolen outside the UK

Passport

  1. If you lose your passport outside the UK you must report this to the local Police station in the country you are in to obtain a crime reference number. 
  2. You should then contact the local Embassy or High Commission of your home country in the country you are currently located for information on applying for a new passport
  3. Even if your passport did notcontain your current immigration permission, you must update your details with UKVI as soon as you get back to the UK via a Change of Circumstances (MCC) form available here.

If you lose your passport you must inform International Student Support at immigration@qub.ac.uk.


BRP card (i.e. visa on a credit card sized biometric card)

  1. You must report your lost BRP card to the local Police Station in the country you are in and obtain a crime reference number.
  2. You must report to UKVI that you have lost your BRP.  You can do this by following the instructions here.
  3. You will need to apply online for a single entry visa to return to the UK. You should select the following route: 
  • Reason for visit: Other
  • Visa type: Others
  • Visa sub type: Replacement Biometric Residence Permit

The fee for this application is £154.

You must inform International Student Support if you lose your BRP. Once you return to the UK, we will assist you with applying for a Replacement BRP. The fee for this application is £75.20. You will need to apply for your new BRP within 1 month of your return to the UK.  


Visa vignette (i.e. visa sticker inside your passport)

  1. You must report your lost passport and visa to the local Police Station in the country you are in and obtain a crime reference number.
  2. You will need to apply online for a new visa.  You should select the following route: 
  • Reason for visit: Other
  • Visa type: Others
  • Visa sub type: Vignette transfer

The fee for this application will be £154.

You should contact us at immigration@qub.ac.uk to obtain a letter to confirm you are a student at the University to submit with your application.

Lost/Stolen Inside the UK

Passport

  1. You must report your lost/stolen passport to the Police as soon as possible to obtain a crime reference number.
  2. You should then contact the Embassy or High Commission of your home country for information on how to apply for a replacement passport. This process will be different for every country and you may need to wait some time before you have your new passport. 
  3. You must update your details with UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) using a Migrant Change of Circumstances (MCC) form available here.


BRP card (i.e. visa on a credit card sized biometric card)

  1. You should report your lost BRP card to the Police and obtain a crime reference number.
  2. You must report to UKVI that you have lost your BRP. You can do this by following the instructions here.
  3. You should inform International Student Support that you have lost your BRP. We will assist you with applying for your replacement BRP.
  4. You must apply for your replacement BRP within 3 months of losing your previous BRP. You will have to complete Form BRP (RC) which can be found here. The standard fee for this application is £75.20 which can take around 8-10 weeks to be processed. 


Visa vignette (ie sticker inside your passport)

  1. If you lose your visa vignette you must report this to the Police and obtain a Crime Reference Number.
  2. You should contact International Student Support and we will assist you with applying for a BRP card to replace your vignette.
  3. You will have to complete a TOC form

Informing your School and International Student Support

If you have lost your passport and/or visa, you must inform the University your School and International Student Support by email.

This is to enable us to assist you with the situation and to make arrangements with your School if you have to miss part of your course while obtaining a replacement visa.
